The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation has
named Dawn Upshaw among
the 2007 recipients of the MacArthur Fellowship. Known
as the "genius award," the fellowship recognizes exceptional creativity and
continued promise with a five-year grant totalling $500,000. The Foundation singled out Upshaw for "stretching the
boundaries of operatic and concert singing and enriching the landscape of
contemporary performance through her advocacy of established and emerging
composers."
